Ray Merrick
Ray has represented the 27th District since 2000. He was elected Assistant Majority Leader of the Republican Caucus in 2002, and was then elected in 2004 as the Speaker Pro Tem of the House. From 2004 through 2006 Ray served as Pro Tem. In 2006 Ray was elected House Republican Majority Leader and now has a unique opportunity to better serve the citizens of the 27th District as well as assist other Republican legislators serve their districts.

The Majority Leader
The position of the House Majority Leader was created in 1927. At the time of its creation, the position was known as the Floor Leader. The title changed in 1967 to Majority Floor Leader of the House. It was not until 1971 that the leadership office of the majority party in the House of Representatives was known as House Majority Leader. Ray Merrick is the 36th Kansas Representative to serve as the Majority Leader.

The District
The 27th District of Kansas is located in the southeast corner of Johnson County. The district is comprised mainly of Stilwell and some of southern Overland Park and Olathe. The district boundaries are roughly 151st Street on the north to the Miami County border in the south, and the Missouri state line on the east and Lackman Road on the west.
