The 2008 Legislative Intern Program
The Kansas Legislative Intern Program attracts talented students from colleges and universities across our state. The program continues to be competitive in terms of the quality of students attracted to it and the overall quality of the program itself. Our program has established goals and expectations to guide interns through the legislative process and provide them with an environment that encourages a diverse experience.
Internships are available for any student who is enrolled in a secondary or post-secondary education institution seeking credit for their learning experience and who is making academic progress in their educational course of study.
Note: The 2008 internship application deadline is December 7, 2007.
Internships will begin the week of January 14, 2008, the first day of the 2008 Legislative Session, and last through late March or early April. An Intern Orientation will be held on Thursday, January 10, 2008, and is REQUIRED to serve as an intern in the 2008 session.
Each intern will be assigned to a specific legislator by an Intern Coordinator. Interns will sign an attendance sheet located in the office of their respective intern coordinator for every day the intern works. The Intern coordinators are in each caucus of the legislature:
Caucus Coordinators
House Republican Caucus: Jenna Keesling, office of Rep. Don Dahl
House Democrat Caucus: Kelly DiRocco, office of Rep. Dennis McKinney
Senate Republican Caucus: Carol Benoit, office of Sen. John Vratil
Senate Democrat Caucus: Tim Graham, office of Sen. Anthony Hensley
Intern Assignment
Interns are encouraged to prearrange their internship with a legislator and note such on their application. Interns without a legislator preference will be assigned based on legislative issues of interest and partisan preference.
Interns make their own schedules with their respective legislator. Generally, interns work at the Capitol 10-20 hours per week from January through April.

Mileage will not be paid unless an intern requests it on the mileage reimbursement form and has submitted all other requirements including an intern evaluation form and their legislator has submitted an evaluation of the intern's performance. It is the responsibility of each intern to meet all the requirements for receiving mileage reimbursement.
