What is “Pro Tem”?
Pro Tempore or Pro Tem is a Latin phrase which translates to “for the time being.”
The Speaker Pro Tem is elected to preside when the Speaker is not in the chair. Both officers are nominated by the party caucus of the majority party and formally elected on the first day of the Legislative Session.
