2008 Legislative Calendar

2008 D E A D L I N E S

Work can happen fairly quickly in a normal Legislative Session.  The dates below provide you with the landmark dates and deadlines for the 2008 Legislative Session.  

Deadlines and schedules do not apply to exempt committees.  Those exempt committees are Appropriations, Federal and State Affairs, and Tax committees. 

The following dates are the deadlines for introduction and consideration of bills for the 2008 session as set forth in the Joint Rules of the Senate and the House of Representatives adopted March 8, 2007.

 

Monday, January 14th

First day of 2008 session; convene at 2:00 p.m.

 

Monday, January 28th

Last day for member or members to request to have bills drafted.

 

Thursday, February 7th

Last day for Committees, except exempt committees, to request to have bills drafted.

 

Wednesday, February 13th

Last day for individual members to introduce bills.

 

Friday, February 15th

Last day for Committees, except exempt committees, to introduce bills.

 

Saturday, March 1st

Last day to consider bills in house of origin, except by exempt committees.

 

Wednesday, April 2nd

Last day to consider bills not in house of origin, except by exempt committees.

 

Saturday, April 12th

No bills considered after this date except bills vetoed by governor, Omnibus Appropriations Act and Omnibus Reconciliations Spending limit bill.

 

Veto session approximately two and one-half weeks after last day of regular session.
