BILL FOR SCHOOL FINANCE TRANSPARENCY
PASSES OUT OF COMMITTEE
Topeka – The House Education Budget Committee voted today to recommend House Bill 2175 to the full House. The proposed legislation would provide for a central accounting and reporting system for the receipts and expenditures of Kansas School Districts.
“I am pleased committee members agree we as Legislators need a more accurate picture of how school districts spend their funding,” said Rep. Lana Gordon (R-Topeka). “With school financing consisting of more than 50% of our budget, HB 2175 puts into place a uniform budgeting and reporting system that will allow us to compare apples to apples among the districts’ allocations.”
HB 2175 directs the State Board of Education to develop and maintain a centralized accounting and reporting system. Each district would have remote access to work with the program.
Rep. Gordon represents the 52nd District in Topeka.
