REP. GORDON ELECTED NFWL STATE DIRECTOR FOR KANSAS
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Members of the National Foundation for Women Legislators (NFWL) recently elected Kansas State Representative Lana Gordon (R-Topeka) as Kansas State Director at the 2007 NFWL Annual Conference in Louisville, Kentucky.
“I am honored that the members of NFWL have asked me to serve as their representative in Kansas for this next year and thrilled to have the opportunity to build relationships,” Rep. Gordon said. “I have already used many important connections that I made at the 2007 Annual Conference and I look forward to working with my colleagues in the legislature on the important public policy issues that were discussed in Kentucky.”
By accepting the State Director position, Representative Gordon takes on liaison and communications responsibilities between women elected officials in Kansas and their counterparts across the nation.
“Representative Lana Gordon is an articulate and impassioned leader,” remarked NFWL President & CEO, Robin Read. “We are looking forward to her leadership in the Foundation and I am confident that she is going to contribute to making the next year one of the most exciting and productive years that NFWL has seen yet.”
First elected to the 2001 Kansas Legislature, Rep. Gordon represents the 52nd House District which includes southwest part of Topeka and Mission Township.
She is the chairman of the House Economic Development and Tourism Committee and the Joint Committee on Economic Development. She also serves on the House Commerce and Labor Committee; the House Education Budget Committee; the Joint Committee on Arts and Cultural Resources; and the Select Committee on KPERS.
The mission of NFWL is to provide strategic resources to women leaders for leadership development and effective governance through conferences, seminars, issue education materials, professional and personal relationships, and networking at both the state and federal levels.
Through annual educational and networking events, the National Foundation for Women Legislators supports women legislators from all levels of governance. As a non-profit, non-partisan organization, NFWL does not take ideological positions on public policy issues, but rather serves as a forum for women legislators to be empowered through information and experience.
