REP. HAYZLETT APPOINTED CHAIR OF INTERIM COMMITTEE
Topeka – Kansas Speaker of the House of Representatives Melvin Neufeld (R-Ingalls) announced today he has appointed Rep. Gary Hayzlett (R-Lakin) as Chairman of the 2007 Transportation Interim Committee.
“Rep. Hayzlett’s vast knowledge of transportation issues facing our state as well as his number of years as the Chairman of the House Transportation Committee made him the ideal choice to lead this interim committee,” Speaker Neufeld said. “Under his leadership, I am confident committee members will review their assigned issues and come up with sound public policy recommendations for the 2008 Legislative Session.”
The 11-member committee will meet six days between now and the next legislative session to study:
- Short Line Railroads
- Inter-municipality Light Rail Systems
- Kansas Affiliation with the Midwest Interstate Passenger Rail Compact
- Graduated Driver’s Licensing
- Regulation of Work-Site Utility Vehicles
Rep. Hayzlett represents the 122nd District which includes Greeley, Hamilton, Kearny and Scott Counties as well as parts of Finney and Haskell Counties. In addition to being Chairman of the House Transportation Committee, he also serves on the House Taxation and Economic Development and Tourism Committees.
