Representative Introduces Domestic Partnership Bill
Topeka – State Representative Lance Kinzer (R-Olathe) introduced legislation this week aimed at preventing piecemeal implementation of domestic partnership laws in Kansas, House Bill 2299.
“Passage of domestic partnership laws on an ad hoc basis is bad public policy and could potentially undermine the will of the voters as expressed in the 2004 marriage amendment,” explained Rep. Kinzer. “This bill will avoid conflicts and litigation that could develop out of the passage of inconsistent domestic partnership laws across the state.”
HB 2299 would prohibit Kansas counties and cities from enacting any local legislation that would create a domestic partner registry or establish or recognize any domestic partnership not recognized under state law.
HB 2299 was referred to House Committee on Federal and State Affairs.
