REPRESENTATIVES HOLD STEM CELL RESEARCH BRIEFING
Topeka – Kansas House of Representatives Brenda Landwehr (R-Wichita) and Lance Kinzer (R-Olathe) along with Archbishop Joseph F. Naumann of the Kansas Catholic Conference today held an educational briefing about stem cell research.
“There are many confusing and false statements being repeated in the media and in this Statehouse about stem cell research. Today’s briefing was intended to clarify and highlight issues in the debate taking place in the Kansas Legislature concerning human cloning and stem cell research,” explained Rep. Landwehr.
Rep. Landwehr said she supports stem cell research.
“There has been much success in research using adult stem cell, umbilical cords, and embryonic fluid,” said Landwehr. “Kansas should work to be a leader in the adult stem cell research.”
Rep. Kinzer said he too supported adult stem cell research.
“With this hope of stem cells research, there is a lot of hype out there and as legislators we must cut through that hype from all sides and make good public policy,” said Rep. Kinzer. “It is important everyone have a clear understanding of the terms, procedures and scientific research involved - no matter where you stand on these issues.”
Today educational briefing also included the showing of a video entitled “The Science of Stem Cells Finding Cures and Protecting Life”.
“We thank Archbishop Naumann and the Kansas Catholic Conference for helping articulate the issues in a way for everyone to understand,” said Rep. Kinzer.
