REP. LIGHT APPOINTED TO JUDICIARY INTERIM COMMITTEE
Topeka – Kansas Speaker of the House of Representatives Melvin Neufeld (R-Ingalls) announced today he has appointed Rep. Bill Light (R-Rolla) to serve on the 2007 Judiciary Interim Committee.
“Rep. Light has served his constituents and the state of Kansas well,” Speaker Neufeld said. “I believe his experience and Western Kansas background will bring a new perspective to the committee as members review and make legislative recommendations on a number of important and sensitive issues.”
The 13-member committee will meet ten days between now and the 2008 Legislative Session to study:
- Operations of the Board of Healing Arts
- Kansas Administrative Procedures Act and Act for Judicial Review of Agency Actions
- Operation of the Kansas Parole Board
- Medical Assistance for Trust Beneficiaries
- Subrogation Clauses in Health Insurance Contracts
- Change in Judge in a Civil Action
- Allowing a Parent to Remove a Child from the Custodial Parent to Protect the Child from Abuse
- Aggravated Incest
- Establishment of District Attorney Offices
- Submission of Blood or Other Biological Samples to the KBI
- Settle Damages between Landlords and their Farm Tenants and Gas and Oil Operators
- Vehicular Homicide
- Indemnification Agreements
- Release of Inmates to House Arrest of the Secretary of Corrections
- Child Care Custody – Military Deployment
Rep. Light said he looks forward to this new legislative challenge.
“This will be my first opportunity to serve on a Judiciary Committee, so I am looking forward to the learning experience,” Rep. Light said. “The interim committee will be discussing a number of issues that concern the protection of children from abuse. This is an important issue to me, so it will be good to be part of this discussion.”
Rep. Light represents the 124th District which includes Grant, Morton, Stanton and Stevens Counties as well as parts of Haskell and Seward Counties. He serves on the House Agriculture and Natural Resources; Energy and Utilities; and Veterans, Military, and Homeland Security Committees.
