PROPOSED HEALTH PLAN WILL HELP 76th District

Topeka – Kansas House Representative Peggy Mast (R-Emporia) said today the new health care plan introduced Monday by the Kansas House Republican Task Force on Health Care will improve health care and help the uninsured in the 76th District.

“There are different factors that contribute to the thousands of uninsured in my district– cost, job loss and lack of availability,” said Rep. Mast who served as the Task Force Vice-Chairman.  “Our health care plan, KanCare, will expand coverage, limit costs, improve quality, and guarantee long-term stability for all Kansans.”

Rep. Mast said KanCare addresses four major issues facing the state’s health care system:

  • Makes Commercial Insurance more affordable
  • Establishes KanInsure to transition Medicaid and the uninsured to private insurance coverage
  • Medicaid Reform - New MediKan
  • Strengthens Charity Care

KanCare builds on the strengths of our health care system,” explained Rep. Mast. “For example, vouchers or tax credits issued under KanInsure would be used to help pay for a family insurance plan.  This lets children on Medicaid to transfer to their parents’ family plan - allowing the entire family to see the same doctors and improving their access to health care.”

Mast said she and Task Force Chairman Rep. Jeff Colyer, MD will hold a town hall meeting in Emporia to explain more details and answer questions.

Other Task Force Members included: Rep. Bob Bethell, Rep. Terrie Huntington, Rep. Mike Kiegerl, Rep. Jeff King, Rep. Brenda Landwehr,  Rep. Ray Merrick, Rep. Melvin Neufeld, Rep. Mike O’Neal, Rep. Clark Shultz, Rep. Kenny Wilk, and Rep. Kevin Yoder.
