REP.  PROEHL APPOINTED TO INTERIM COMMITTEE

Topeka – Kansas Speaker of the House of Representatives Melvin Neufeld (R-Ingalls) announced today he has appointed Rep. Richard Proehl (R-Parsons) to the 2007 Transportation Interim Committee.

“Rep. Proehl’s experience and background will bring a new perspective to transportation issues facing our state and Southeast Kansas that I believe will serve all Kansans well,” Speaker Neufeld said.

The 11-member committee will meet six days between now and the next legislative session to study:

  • Short Line Railroads
  • Inter-municipality Light Rail Systems
  • Kansas Affiliation with the Midwest Interstate Passenger Rail Compact
  • Graduated Driver’s Licensing
  • Regulation of Work-Site Utility Vehicles

Rep. Proehl said he is honored to be serving on the Transportation Interim Committee and believes many of the topics to be discussed could have an encouraging impact on the state.

“It is with great pleasure that I anticipate serving on the Transportation Interim Committee,” Rep. Proehl said.  “Transportation is so critical to the Kansas economy. The expansion of shortline railroads could be extremely positive for agriculture in Southeast Kansas while an inner-city light rail system could help us reduce pollution and fuel consumption while moving a large number of people rapidly.”

Rep. Proehl represents the 7th District including the cities of Altamont, Bartlett, Chetopa, Edna, Labette, Oswego and part of Parsons.  He serves on the House Judiciary; Energy and Utilities; and Veterans, Military and Homeland Security Committees as well as the Joint Committee on State-Tribal Relations.
