REP. SIEGFREID NAMED CHAIRMAN OF INTERIM COMMITTEE

Topeka – Kansas Speaker of the House of Representatives Melvin Neufeld (R-Ingalls) announced today he has appointed Rep. Arlen Siegfreid (R-Olathe) to serve as the Chairman of the 2007 Federal and State Affairs Interim Committee.

“Rep. Siegfreid’s knowledge of federal and state issues and his service as the Chairman of the House Federal and State Affairs Committee made his appointment to the interim committee an easy decision,” Speaker Neufeld said.  “His experience and background will serve the interim committee well as it reviews a number of important and sensitive issues.”

The nine-member committee will meet six days between now and the 2008 Legislative Session to study:

  • Late-Term Abortion laws
  • Regulation and Oversight of Amusement Rides
  • Public Smoking in Kansas

Chairman Siegfreid said he looks forward to the work ahead of him and the committee.

“Committee work during the regular session can happen quickly with not much time to study an issue.  This interim committee will give us the opportunity to spend quality time on these critical issues facing Kansas,” Chairman Siegfreid said.  “We will work to make sound public policy recommendations to the Kansas Legislature.  By doing our work correctly, we can greatly expedite and improve the quality of handling of these issues during the 2008 session.”

Rep. Siegfreid represents the 15th District which includes parts of the city of Olathe and Olathe Township in Johnson County.  In addition to the House Federal and State Affairs Committee, he also serves on the House Taxation and Government Efficiency and Technology Committees as well as the Joint Committees on Administrative Rules and Regulations; Pensions, Investments and Benefits; and State-Tribal Relations.
